What Will Happen in the Year 2012?

What will happen in 2012? There are many predictions that beg to answer that question. Primary among them is solar activity with potentialy devastating effects. The movie 2012 focuses on that factor. This article focuses on the predicted solar storm.

I am sure that you are aware of all the publicity given to the movie 2012. Have you seen the movie? I saw it. The movie was certainly a cinematography extravaganza. Just watching the special effects was worth the price of entry. It painted a dim and catastrophic picture of what will happen in 2012. But, then that was pure fiction, a movie.

The movie, 2012, used the Sun's activity to imply some sort of neutrino emission that melts the earth's core. Philip Yam in Scientific American's Observations column takes a dim view of any such neutrino behavior, "Particles that can heat up the solid iron inner core by thousands of degrees should have cooked Earth's surface dry before Woody Harrelson gets the chance to steal all the scenes he's in."

And yet, as early as 2006, Dr. M. Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) predicted that, "The next sunspot cycle will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one." Dr. Dikpati forecasts a Solar Max will occur in 2012. Can that cause an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) powerful enough to wipe out our communications?

Are you concerned that the Mayan calendar prophecy is valid? Are you concerned that there may be some truth to the prediction that on December 21, 2012, the winter solstice, something earth changing will occur?
Imagine our world bombarded by electromagnetic impulses so powerful that they disrupt all of our communications. Imagine not able to use your cell phone or not able to start your electronic ignition car. Is that something you should be worried about?

Do you remember the Northeast blackout of 2003 affecting an estimated 55 million people? That was officially declared to have been caused by a series of unfortunate events.
Six weeks later a similar event happened in Italy. 56 million people were affected by that blackout. Government officials claim another series of unfortunate events caused that blackout.
Solar activity reached a new record high later that year.

Can Solar Max storms cause similar catastrophic events? Like those coming in 2012? According to the prestigious IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), due to their much longer duration, solar storm geomagnetically induced currents (EMP) effects on the power system are greater than the effects caused by nuclear detonation!

So, what will happen in 2012? At this point, I don't think any mainstream scientist wants to step outside their box and make any catastrophic predictions. Yet, there is evidence that something can happen in 2012. Is it a form of denial? Not to mention the plethora of other predictions made by students of the Mayan Prophecy. What do you think?

Wouldn't it be prudent to learn all you can about this intriguing subject? After all, regardless of whether the predictions will come true or not it may be wise to be prepared for any natural catastrophes.
