Even before the movie 2012 aired or was shown in cinemas, some people have already heard or even read about the 2012 pole shift. These people are the ones who were actually the first to worry about such a thing. There are lots of theories and assumptions about what could happen, but nothing gives a definite answer. When and how the world will end is still a big question mark in people's minds. The different theories that surface now, especially since Hollywood has been in a state of making movies with "the end of the world" theme, has been quite confusing for most people. They don't know what to believe in anymore. But there are definitely a great number of people who believe that the Polar flip 2012 theory is the most possible explanation of the things that could happen.
You could have heard the Polar flip 2012 theory whilst passing by a group of people or even during one of those get-together with your friends, when this topic would just pop. It is not bad to talk about and even discuss your views and opinions about this topic. In a way, it sort of is knowledge empowerment. The more you know about the could-be happenings in the year 2012, the more you will be able to prepare yourself for what could and couldn't happen. This theory states that when the two poles switch positions, physically, it would cause major catastrophic events, like earthquakes which cannot be measured by the Richter scale, tidal waves that are hundreds, no, even thousands of meters high, and global simultaneous volcanic eruptions. This picture is how most people imagine the end of the world.
Before you get all panicky and before you get all pumped up getting ready to survive this event, ask yourself this simple question: have you read enough to arm yourself about the pole shifts? The likelihood of this event happening is one in a million. The only thing which could cause the physical reversal or shift of both the north and south pole, as surmised by experts and professors alike, is if there would be a huge heavenly body (like, oh, a planet) that would pass so close to earth. Theories also state that is the other planet's magnetic force is stronger than earth's; there is a bigger possibility that the latter would be affected greatly.
One other explanation that could probably cause the physical polar reversal is a collision. There are scientists and experts who said that a meteor or asteroid that will hit earth will not be powerful enough to destroy earth, but the impact would cause the planet to topple on its axis. Thus it would cause the polar shift. However, aside from these two possible causes of the polar flip 2012, there are other possible explanations as to how the planet could have a polar flip. The last explanation for a polar shift is that it naturally occurs every thousands of years. There are no data that could scientifically assure that it is true, because thousands of years ago, no equipment was available to record the event.
