What is Predicted to Happen in 2012? Cause For Alarm?

What will happen in the year 2012? Although no one knows for sure, there is much debate as December 21, 2012 looms closer and closer with each passing day. Depending on which side of the debate you align yourself, you may see the coming of 2012 as a blessing, a curse, or simply something to talk about. Regardless, now is the time to get informed instead of waiting until the last minute.

This article briefly discusses what is predicted to happen in 2012 from 3 different perspectives. At the end, you will be provided with a link to an excellent resource where you can learn more about what may happen in 2012 and how it could affect you.

The Enlightened Perspective

The enlightened perspective predicts the year 2012 will be a time of great, positive change. These are the optimists. The end of the Mayan long count calendar is seen as the end of an era and the start of a new beginning. Think of it much like the end of a present day calendar year and the start of a new year's resolutions as we flip over the calendar.

Rather than seeing 2012 as the end of the world, the enlightened perspective views it as a time of great change and positive spiritual growth. Many believe it will be a time where we will make new discoveries and take massive action to reverse the current condition of our planet. For example, finding ways to decrease global warming, finding alternative energy sources, and reducing waste and pollution.

The Doomsday Perspective

What is predicted to happen in 2012 from the doomsday perspective? This is the pessimistic viewpoint. Some believe the year 2012 and the end of the Mayan long count calendar marks the end of the world. These theorists predict all hell will break loose on our planet.

Predictions include major nuclear world wars, the collision of the 10km wide Eros 433 meteor with the Earth, sun storms, worldwide drought and hunger, massive volcanic eruptions at Yellowstone National Park, never before seen climatic conditions like massive hurricanes, tornadoes, and the reversal of the Earth's magnetic poles that would kill off the planet by exposing it to the sun's radiation.

Some believe Christ will return and take His followers to Heaven while the rest of the Earth perishes.

The Nothing Will Happen Perspective

From this perspective, nothing unusual will happen in the year 2012. It will simply be like any other year and will be much like the Y2K scare that caused panic, but fizzled away with no major events. The world will continue to turn just like it has for thousands of years and we'll go about our daily lives living the best way we know how.
