This didn't used to be a problem because the Earth's magnetosphere, which invisibly protects the atmosphere, shielded the planet from any charged particles like the solar wind. Now NASA has found two holes in the magnetosphere, making us at risk for radiation issues.
If more solar radiation happens, this means the Earth will start having problems with electronics. Computers and mobile phones won't work right. This also means vehicles with computers will have problems. With more radiation coming in, it will mean more people will deal with cancers produced by radiation.

The last time the Earth underwent a geomagnetic reversal was 780,000 years ago. Each shifting tends to be 300,000 years apart, 5,000 years at the minimum, and five million years.
Other experts believe this won't happen, and a polar shift won't be as bad as what the sun will undergo. They think it will take another 1,000 to 5,000 years for the Earth go through this. The only way an abrupt polar shift would happen if is a powerful heavenly body would come within close contact to the earth. Some people wonder if this planet would be Nibiru or Planet X.
NASA doesn't believe in this existence, but others have arguments to disapprove this reality. It's hard to say what happens until we actually experience 2012.
